Dental Care Replacements: Brush Heads & Flosser Tips

The two dominant electric toothbrush platforms are Oral-B (round oscillating heads) and Philips Sonicare (elongated sonic heads). These are completely incompatible with each other. Within each platform, however, most heads are cross-compatible across model tiers — a head that fits an Oral-B Pro 1000 typically fits the Oral-B iO Series as well (with the exception of the iO Gentle Clean series which uses a different mount).

Compatible brush heads use DuPont Tynex nylon bristles — the same material used in OEM heads. The bristle arrangement, stiffness, and trimming profile are manufactured to match the original design. Many compatible heads also include indicator bristles that fade from blue to white to signal replacement time.

For water flossers (Waterpik), replacement tips are universal across most Waterpik models but incompatible with other brands. Standard tips last 6 months, while specialty tips (orthodontic, plaque seeker, tongue cleaner) should be replaced every 3 months.
